The Liberal Lady Redskins held off a stubborn Southwestern Heights team 62-56 Friday night in the Big House. A game which Liberal led by as many as 10 points twice finishes Liberal’s home regular season at 7-1.
Southwestern Heights took the early 7-5 advantage before the Lady Redskins reeled in a 10-0 run to lead 15-7 and led 15-8 at the end of the first quarter. Liberal’s biggest lead in the first half was nine at 27-18. LHS led 32-26 at halftime. LHS took a 39-31 lead after SWH’s best player Layla Kisner picked up her fourth foul early in the third quarter. But the Lady Mustangs out played LHS in the third quarter 20-11 but LHS led 47-46 at the end of three. A Shamari Lewis lay up gave LHS at 52-46 lead with 5:41 to play. Liberal led 56-46 with 4:20 remaining and 58-48 with 3:40 to go.
The Black Hills Energy Player of the Game is Kylie Rhine with 19 points. Shamari Lewis added 15. Trinity Olvera scored 12 equaling her career high.
Southwestern Heights is 17-6 overall and Liberal is 14-3. Liberal plays at Great Bend Monday at 4:30 with Redskin Pre-game at 4:15 on 1270 and 92.3.
