Juarez and McClure Undefeated at Colby

Brock Kappelmann - December 11, 2022 10:38 am

The Liberal wrestling team traveled to Colby to compete in the Eagle Invitational dual tournament. The Angry Red struggled with injuries, illness, and youth. Liberal would start off hot picking up the first 2 dual wins and then go on to lose the rest of duals to some very tough teams. Liberal’s top performers were Trystan Juarez and Tommy McClure who went undefeated in all 7  duals. Trey Dinkins went 5 and 2, Javon Allen 3 and 1, Julian Harvey 3 and 3,  and Julian Orrantia 5 and 2.

Coach Mike Fowler’s Comments:
The Colby tournament is a great tournament to be invited to, and I am very appreciative to the Colby community for the invite. We got off to a good start, but could not maintain it.  We traveled 6 freshmen to the tournament to help in various different roles and they battled for us.  We had some great performances from many different individuals, but we were not able to translate that to team victories on the mat.  We are going to use this early season tournament to get better and work on the things we need to do to improve.  We wrestle at home this Thursday in the BIG HOUSE vs. Ulysses.  The wrestling staff  and the girls and boys wrestlers would love your support this Thursday night as we take on a very solid Ulysses wrestling squad.  The girls and boys wrestling teams. will then travel to Hoisington on Friday for the end of the semester tournament.  The Girls team will then travel from the Hoisington tournament to a Eastern Kansas high-level girls invitational tournament at Basehor Linwood.  Coach Fowler
