For the second straight year, the Hugoton boys basketball team has advanced to the state championship game. Hugoton built a big lead and then held on to edge Atchison 39-38 Friday night in Salina at the 4A state tournament. Isaac Martin hit a jump hook with 24 seconds remaining in the game to give the Eagles the lead. Hugoton built a lead of 27-12 before Atchison rallied. The 22-2 Eagles play McPherson in a rematch of last year’s state title game Saturday night at 6:15. The Bullpups topped Baldwin 62-49.
Meanwhile in Oklahoma City at the Fairgrounds, Hooker lost in the semifinals in the 2A state tournament 49-38 to Pocola. Hooker finishes 27-4.
