High Hopes in Hugoton After Playoff Win

Brock Kappelmann - August 26, 2016 2:51 pm

The Hugoton Eagles got a taste of it last fall.  Hugoton won a playoff game last season. Then they pushed mighty Andale to a heartbreaking 28-27 overtime loss.  The sting of that loss has fueled the Eagles and their 15 seniors this offseason.  Hugoton had 51 out for football with seven starters back on offense and six starters back on defense.  All GWAC quarterback Valentino Degollado returns after amassing 1,963 passing yards and 19 touchdowns.  He also rushed for 791 yards and 10 touchdowns.  Zack Leininger had a great offseason in the weight room and returns back at tight end.  Other key Hugoton seniors are WR Daniel Bustillos, RB/OLB Pedro Ordonez, OL/DL Landon Hickey, T Bernabe Mendoza, DE Brian Flores, WR/K/KR Colby Korf, DE Romano Burger, and DT Alfredo Luna.  Todd Fulton enters his third season as head coach with a 3-6 2013 season and a step forward to 5-6 and much more competitive late last season.  Hugoton was featured during the Friday Sportsguys.
