Guymon Firefighters Injured In Afternoon Crash While Responding

Two Guymon Firefighters are recovering from a crash that occurred Thursday afternoon while responding to reported grass fires.

At approximately 4:20pm, a Guymon Fire Brush unit was responding to a large grass fire caused by lightening south of Rolla, Kansas. The crash occurred north of Guymon on Hwy 136 approximately 6 miles south of the Kansas line. “The front tire caught the right shoulder edge of the highway, over corrected with water in the tank shifting, then rolled 1 ½ times coming to rest upside down in the east ditch”, said Guymon Fire Chief Grant Wadley. Both Firefighters were able to self-extricate themselves and call for help. Guymon Paramedics and co-workers treated and transported the injured Firefighters to Memorial Hospital of Texas County. Driver/Firefighter was treated and released with minor injuries while the passenger Firefighter was admitted in stable condition with chest and back injuries. Oklahoma Highway Patrol is investigating the crash assisted by Texas County Sheriff Office and Texas Count Commisioners.

These Firefighters were responding to a request for help to a fire located southeast of Rolla, Kansas. Multiple fires were reported there then also back here in Texas County. These fires all started by dry lightening strikes from storms passing through the area. Firefighters and Oklahoma Forestry Service are remaining on some of these fires today in all 3 Oklahoma Panhandle counties.
