The Guymon Tigers and the Liberal Redskins played for the first time in three years Thursday night. Maybe they should play more often. It took overtime to determine the outcome as the Tigers beat the Redskins 77-70 in the Big House. Guymon’s Alamayu Lire scored 38 points.
Guymon jumped out to an 8-1 lead. LHS rallied to lead 11-10. It was 14-14 after one. The Redskins took a 29-19 lead and led 34-25 before Guymon rallied at the end of the half and LHS led 34-30 at halftime. The Redskins led 47-41 in the third quarter and led 50-49 after three. The Tigers led 58-52 with 3:18 to play. LHS rallied and Prince Collins swished a three from the left to give Liberal at 61-58 lead with 1:38 to play. The Redskins did not score in the final 1:38 of regulation and the game went to overtime tied 61-61. Guymon controlled overtime taking leads of 69-63 and 71-64 with 2:10 remaining. The Tigers led 73-65. The Redskins cut the lead to 73-70 with with 40 seconds left. But Guymon’s Alamayo Lire was fouled and made both free throws.
Juan Diego is Black Hills Energy Player of the Game with 16 points. Prince Collins scored a career high 16. Alan Olvera scored a career high 11. James Fieser added 11.
Guymon is 3-20 overall and Liberal is 1-17. The Redskins host Southwestern Heights Friday night at about 7:45 on 1270 and 92.3 FM.
