On Saturday, April 11, Liberal Wrestling Club traveled to Dodge City for the

Southwest Kansas Freestyle/Greco Shootout. Freestyle and Greco are two different

types of wrestling that most of our wrestlers are fairly new to. They are the styles that

are done at the olympic level.

The morning started with Greco competition. Greco is a style where wrestlers

can only use the upper body and arms to attack, hold or throw their opponents. Let

attacks, trips or grabbing legs are prohibited. AC Gomez took first in Greco, ending the

session with 1 pin and 2 tech falls.

Marco Jimenez, 3rd, 1 pin and 1 tech fall

Lill Osborn, 3rd

The next style was Freestyle. Freestyle is more like the regular folkstyle that

most wrestlers in Liberal are used to. In freestyle, the emphasis is on high-impact

throws. Gomez also placed first in Freestyle with 1 pin and 2 tech falls.
