Experience Aids LHS Softball in 2023

The Liberal High School softball team has experience on their side.  The Redskins have eight starters back from a team which went 10-11 and 3-9 in the Western Athletic Conference last year.  There are 23 players out for softball under fifth year head coach Tom McClure.  LHS is two year removed from breaking a 65 game WAC losing streak which ran from 2012 to 2021.  Last year, LHS won multiple WAC games and looks to make a move up the standings this season.

Two of the top returning players are second team all WAC pitcher Sr. Jenna Ormiston and second team all WAC shortstop So. Taylor Harding.  Liberal also returns So. pitcher and 3rd baseman Zoe Torres, Jr. catcher Lizzy Mannel, So. 1st baseman Lexi Miller, Sr. 2nd baseman Lizzy Cisneros, Jr. 3rd baseman Maripher Lopez, Sr. outfielder and catcher Ariana Hubbard, Jr. centerfielder Maedeen McClure, and Jr. outfielder Madeline McCarter.  McClure says he has good team speed in this group.

Liberal was 10-11 last year and  had a winning season at 12-9 in 2019, didn’t play in 2020, and went 9-12 in 2021.  The LHS softball team was featured during Sportsguys Tuesday morning.
