Eagles Soar Past Redskins

The #2 ranked class 4A Hugoton Eagles won their fourth straight against the Liberal Redskins with a 77-50 victory in the Big House Tuesday night.  Hugoton jumped on LHS early making six of their first eight three pointers.

The Eagles led 25-13 after one.  The Redskins cut the lead to 27-19, 32-25, and 32-25.  But Hugoton finished the half on a 7-0 run to lead Liberal 39-25 at the half.  Hugoton out scored Liberal 25-15 in the second quarter to lead 64-40 after three as the Redskins struggled with turnovers in the third quarter.  The fourth quarter was played with  a running clock.

Hugoton nailed 9-17 three pointers and went 10-16 at the foul line while Liberal was 4-12 from three and 2-4 at the foul line.  Liberal committed 17 turnovers.

Emmett Gaskill scored 17 to lead the Eagles.  Isaac Martin put in 15.  Dasean Lewis and Griffin Heger scored 13 a piece and Jay Acosta scored 11.  Brooks Kappelmann and Carson Chamberlain scored 10 a piece for Liberal.  Kappelmann had seven rebounds and Zayden Martinez had eight rebounds.

Hugoton is 5-1 and plays January 5 at Scott City.  Liberal is 3-3 and has dropped three straight.  They play at Hays Friday night at 7:45 on 1270 and 92.3.
