Dodge City Takes Battle for First Over Saints

The team picked for 12th in the 13 team Jayhawk Conference (Seward) plays the team picked for sixth in the KJCCC (Dodge City) Saturday afternoon at the Dome in Dodge.  Seward led by as many as eight, before Dodge City led by as many as nine, before the Saints rallied to put themselves in a position to have the ball in the closing seconds with a chance to tie or win.  But Dodge City’s 7’2″ behemoth Wesly Rosa blocked Seward’s tying shot attempt to clinch a Dodge City win 79-77.

The Conqs took an early 6-0 lead.  It was 6-6 at the media timeout.  It was 16-13 DC3 and the 12 minute media timeout.  The Saints took leads of 27-21 and 33-28.  The Saints led 34-32 at the half.  After back to back three pointers by RJ McKinnie, Seward led 55-47 with 11:35 to play.  The Conqs used an 17-2 run to lead 64-57.  A Bailey Milligan three cut the lead to 64-63 with 5:10 to play.  The Conquistadors took a 74-65 lead with 1:30 remaining.  But the Saints rallied and when Awit Mamer knocked a ball off a Conquistador player, Seward had the ball with a chance to win or tie with 4.6 seconds left.

The Black Hills Energy Player of the Game is RJ McKinnie with 20 points and six rebounds.  Antonio Williams Jr. added 20.  Lucas N’Gombo had 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Seward shot 37 percent from the field going 8-23 from 3 and 13-16 from the foul line.  Seward shot 45 percent while going 8-20 from three and 17-24 from the free throw line.  The Saints forced 16 turnovers and only turned it over nine times.
