DA says suspect’s daughter likely to testify in Kansas moms’ killings

The daughter of a suspect in the case of two slain Kansas moms will likely have to testify, according to the district attorney for Texas County, Oklahoma.

The district attorney said Cora Twombly’s daughter will likely testify in the trials of two of the five people accused of killing Veronica Butler and Jilian Kelley.

During the preliminary hearings in late 2024, Twombly said that her testimony would spare her daughter from taking the stand, but the DA is now clarifying that this was not part of Twombly’s plea agreement.

The DA said that while Twombly’s testimony meant her daughter’s was not needed during the preliminary hearings, she will be subpoenaed for trial, and there is a good chance she will testify.

The exact details of Twombly’s plea agreement are not known.

According to court documents, “Cora said she had a ‘mission’ she had to go on. [Her daughter] knew that meant to find and kill Veronica.”

When Twombly returned later, her daughter “asked what they did with [Veronica and Jilian] and Cora stated no one would find them,” the documents allege.

The documents also say that when Twombly’s daughter learned they had killed Kelley, a pastor’s wife with children, “that was more than she could take.”
