Corona receives Water Operator Award

Guillermo Corona, Water Supervisor and Class IV Certified Water Operator for Liberal, Kansas, was presented with the 2026 Water Operator Award of Excellence by Kansas Municipal Utilities (KMU). KMU is the statewide association of community-owned and operated electric, water, wastewater, and natural gas utilities in Kansas. Guillermo was presented the award at the 2026 KMU Conference in Wichita on April 23, 2026, by Katie Miller, KMU Director of Water Services.

The KMU Water Operator Award of Excellence is given to recognize individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the municipal utility industry and their communities.

Guillermo Corona is a highly dedicated Water Supervisor who has served the City of Liberal for over 28 years. Throughout his long and distinguished career, he has become the backbone of the department, playing a vital role in maintaining reliable water operations and ensuring the community receives safe and efficient service. One of Guillermo’s most significant achievements is his lasting impact on the development of his team. For the past 20 years, he has trained nearly every employee who has come through the department. His patience and willingness to teach from day one has helped shape a knowledgeable and capable workforce. Guillermo takes pride in mentoring others, ensuring that each new hire understands not only the technical aspects of the job but also the importance of responsibility, safety, and quality service.

Guillermo’s ability to troubleshoot problems, maintain operations, and implement effective solutions has been critical to the department’s success. Guillermo goes above and beyond to assist residents, whether responding to after-hours calls or taking the time to explain how systems work and how customers can resolve issues. His willingness to help in any situation reflects his strong sense of responsibility and dedication to the community.
