Conqs Too Much for Saints

The #13 Dodge City Conquistadors snapped a three game losing streak with a 78-65 win over the Seward County Saints Saturday afternoon at the Dome in Dodge.  The Saints committed 20 turnovers and dug themselves a hole in the first half trailing 40-21 at intermission.

The Saints took a 6-2 lead in the opening minutes of the game.  The Conqs claimed leads of 26-11 and 34-14 before leading 40-21 at the half.  Seward shot just 29 percent in the first half while making just 1-8 three’s.   The Dodge lead ballooned to 23 at 51-28.  The Saints actually outscored the Conqs in the second half at 44-38.

Dodge City had a good game beyond the three point arc making 12-30 for 4o%.  They shot 37 percent from the field and 4-8 from three.  Seward shot 39 percent and 5-19 from three for 26 percent.  Seward was 12-20 from the foul line.  Dodge out rebounded SCCC 46-39.

Jaylin Henderson scored his career high 27 points and scored 20 or more for the seventh time this season.  He also pulled down seven rebounds.  Mario Whitley returned for the first time since a January 7th concussion at Hutchinson and scored 12.  Kole Scott scored 10.

Dodge City wins their sixth straight over Seward.  The Saints fall to 11-11 overall and 7-9 in the Jayhawk.  Dodge City is 15-6 overall and 11-4 in the KJCCC.  Seward hosts Cloud Wednesday night at 8pm on 107.5.  Pizza Hut is the buyout sponsor.
