Conqs Stun Saints Late

The Dodge City Conquistadors stunned the Seward County Saints 75-74 Wednesday night on Sophomore Recognition Night in the Green House.  The Saints led by as many and 12 and led by eight with three minutes left in the game.  The Conqs finished the game on an 11-2 run.  It was Dodge City’s sixth straight win at Seward.

The game was tied 7-7 at the first media timeout. DC3 took a 14-7 lead before SCCC trimmed the lead to 14-12 with 11:39 to play. The Conqs took a 24-14 lead.  Seward rallied to lead 39-30 at halftime.  The Saints led 42-30 early in the second half.  SCCC took a 55-43 lead with 13:28 to play on a Lucas N’Gombo three from the top of the key.  The Saints led 58-47.  The Conqs cut the lead to 58-55 but Seward took a 64-55 lead with 7:34 to play on a Lyna Brooks 3 pointer.  The Conqs slashed the lead to 64-62 before the Saints took a lead of 68-63 with 3:43 remaining.  The Saints led 70-64 with 3:02 remaining.  The Saints led 72-64 with three minutes to play.  The Conqs cut the lead to 74-71 with 1:14 remaining.  The Conqs took a 75-74 lead with 15.3 seconds left.

The Black Hills Energy Player of the Game is Lucas N’Gombo with 16 points and eight rebounds.  RJ McKinnie had 13 points.  Brevyn Coleman, Awit Mamer, and Lyna Brooks Jr. scored 10 a piece.  Mamer pulled down six rebounds.

Seward shot 34 percent from the field going 12-36 from three.  Seward was 12-16 from the foul line.  Dodge City enjoyed a free throw advantage of 22-32.  DCCC shot 41 percent from the field and 5-19 from 3.  The Conqs out-rebounded the Sants 48-40.

Dodge City is 20-10 overall and 16-8 in the Jayhawk.  Seward falls to 18-12 overall and finishes 13-11 in the Jayhawk.  SCCC falls to 11-3 in the Green House.  The Saints host Colby Saturday at a time to be announced on 1270 and 92.3.
