Collision with Truck on Pancake Kills Liberal Boy

Tragedy struck Liberal last night after a nine year old boy pulled in front of a truck Friday night. Nine year old Caleb Garcia of Liberal lost his life after riding his bicycle in front of a Peterbuilt Tractor at about 6 p.m. Friday night. Garcia was riding the bicycle south on New York, approaching Highway 54. A semi was headed west on 54. Garcia failed to yield and was run over by the semi.

Highway 54 and Pancake were closed for hours Friday evening as first reponders worked the scene of the accident. It was closed between Kansas and Virginia. East bound lanes were re-opened at about 9 p.m. before the road was fully re-opened at about midnight.
