Cold Shooting Skins Fall to Salina Central

Brock Kappelmann - January 20, 2024 7:14 pm

Liberal played one of their best defensive games of the season Saturday in the Salina Invitational.  Unfortunately for them, they struggled to shoot straight in a 44-40 loss to the Salina Central Mustangs Saturday afternoon at Salina South High School.  Liberal shot 28 percent from the field and 2-17 from three point range in the loss.  It was the least points allowed by the Redskin defense all season.

The Redskins jumped out to leads of 9-5, 13-6, and 13-8 after one quarter.  The Mustangs rallied to lead 25-21 at halftime.  The score was tied 35-35 at the half.  The Redskins were out-scored 9-5 in the fourth quarter.

Zayden Martinez was Epic Touch Player of the Game with 13 points and nine rebounds.  Brooks Kappelmann scored 11 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.  Kappelmann was named to the SIT All Tournament team.

Salina Central is 5-5 and Liberal falls to 4-8.  The Redskins play at Woodward Friday night at 8pm on 1270 and 92.3.
