Volunteers to drive veterans to Amarillo VA Medical Center for appointments drive on Tuesdays or Thursdays, roundtrip to Amarillo and back. Lunch is provided for drivers in Amarillo. There is no pay except your own knowledge that you have helped local veterans receive medical services as promised them by the military.
You must pass a physical (Fridays only), take a simple driving test, and view a video regarding your duties. Transport to Amarillo is provided for driver candidates. Background check is run through Amarillo’s Community Services and V.A. Police.
You should possess, your current drivers license, proof of insurance, and a copy of your NCIC driving record from the Sheriffs office. You will be sent a packet from Amarillo V.A. with details.
Drivers are generally called in rotation 2-3 times per month for these runs. We use a Government vehicle, a Toyota Sienna van.
