The Liberal Youth Council (LYC) gives young residents an opportunity to learn about City operations, share their voice on issues, and help impact local policies and projects. Established in 2026, the Council works collaboratively with Commissioners and staff to share their perspectives and ideas for development.
LYC’s Purpose
- Introduce young residents to local government leaders, staff, and operations
- Provide a formal method for young residents to share their perspective on City issues
- Encourage civic engagement and future involvement in leadership roles
- Connect the Liberal City Commission and staff with new ideas for development
The LYC membership is comprised of up to 15 residents, ages 14-19, who live in or attend school in Liberal. Members are selected for a two-year term through appointment by the Liberal City Commission.
Meetings are held during odd-calendar months (Sept, Nov, Jan, Mar, May, Jul) with members sharing comments from the Council during the second City Commission meeting of even-calendar months (Oct, Dec, Feb, Apr, Jun, Aug).
