Bee Jays Take Series Finale from Derby

The Liberal Bee Jays concluded their regular season series with the Derby Twins with a 9-5 victory on Thursday in Derby.

Liberal got off to a hot start scoring the game’s first seven runs. Christian Kowalchuk earned the win for the Bee Jays going 5.3 innings, striking out three, and walking just one. He is now 2-1 on the season. Travis Parker, Thomas Cruz, and Nick Youpel came in relief to hold the Twins down.

The Bee Jays were led by Marc Gomez who hit a grand slam in the third inning. Liberal ended up scoring five runs in that third. David Masters also hit his first home run of the season for Liberal giving them a 9-4 lead in the game.

The Bee Jays have now won 13 of their last 15 games and improve to 22-8 overall, and 14-8 in the Jayhawk League.

Liberal will travel to Dodge City on Friday night. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. The game will air on 1270 AM and right here on kscbnews.net.
