Bee Jays Split in Showdown at Hays

The 2nd place Liberal Bee Jays and 1st place Hays Larks split a double header Tuesday night at Larks Park in Hays.  The Larks won 8-1 in game one and the Bee Jays took game two 11-10.

In game one, the game was scoreless after three but Hays scored five in the fourth, one in the fifth, and two in the sixth.  Liberal scored in the sixth.  Isaac Webb and Owen May singled.  Walker Polk hit a sacrifice fly.  Webb and May had two hits a piece.

Liberal scored first in the nightcap.  The B.J.’s scored three in the second.  Nick Husovsky singled.  Derek Lukes walked.  Husovsky scored on a wild pitch.  Jett Brown singled home a run to right.  Luke Rhee lined an RBI single to left.  The Bee Jays scored four in the third to lead 7-0.  Ryota Kusumoto singled to lead off the inning.  Walker Polk singled.  Nick Husovsky ripped an RBI double down the left field line. Derek Lukes launched a towering three run home run to left center for the 7-0 lead.  Hays scored four in the third on two hits and three BJ walks.  Liberal scored three in the fourth to lead 10-4.  Owen May walked and Ryota Kusumoto singled.  Walker Polk was hit by a pitch.  Derek Lukes walked with the bases loaded.  Jackson Schofield line a two RBI single to left center.  The Larks scored four more in the fourth to make it 10-8 Liberal.  Walker Polk led off the sixth with a solo home run to left center batting right handed.  Hays scored two in the sixth and had on second and third with no outs. But Luke Wilkerson came on in relief and got out of the inning.  Wilkerson also tossed a scoreless seventh.  Justin Hudson pitched 1 and 2/3 scoreless innings.  Ryota Kusumoto, Walker Polk, and Nick Husovsky had two hits a piece.

Liberal out-hit Hays 11-8.  Liberal committed four errors and Hays had three.

Hays is 27-5 overall and 16-3 in the Rocky Mountain.  Liberal is 21-9 overall and 14-6 in the RMBL.  Hays is now 18-1 at Larks Park.  The same two teams meet Wednesday night at Larks Park in Hays with pre-game at 5:15 and first pitch at 5:30 on 1270 and 92.3.
