Bee Jays Rally Past Angels

Brock Kappelmann - June 4, 2024 7:15 am

The Liberal Bee Jays win their opening Rocky Mountain Baseball League series.  Trailing 5-1 and 6-3 the Bee Jays rallied past the Gameday Angels 9-7 Monday night at Brent Gould Field.

The Angels plated one in the second.  Liberal’s Robert Orr cracked a solo home run to left in the third to tie the game.  The Angels scored four in the fourth.  Three runs scored on a B.J. error giving Gameday a 5-1 lead.  The B.J.’s scored two in the fifth as Cesar Gomez and Tanner Gerosa singled and Ryota Kusumoto singled home two to make it 5-3.  The Angels chased home a sixth inning run but a nice grab by Robert Orr at shortstop with the bases loaded prevented further damage.  The Bee Jays got to the Angel bullpen in the bottom of the sixth with four runs.  Angel pitching walked to and hit one batter.  After two walks Robert Orr reached on an infield single.  Tanner Gerosa was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it 6-4.  The fifth run scored on an Angel error.  Ben Merriman’s sac fly tied the game.  The lead run scored on a wild pitch as Gameday fell apart in the sixth and Liberal led 7-6.  The Angels tied the game in the seventh.  Liberal scored two in the eighth.  Tanner Gerosa singled to lead off the inning.  Ben Merriman tripled him home with a line drive over the right fielder’s head.  Lane Snow fought off a single to center for the 9-7 lead.

Liberal out-hit Gameday 12-9.  It was a very sloppy game as Gameday had five errors and Liberal had three.

Tanner Gerosa was Epic Touch Player of the Game going 3-3.  Robert Orr was 2-4 with a home run.  Ryota Kusumoto was 2-5 with two RBI’s and a double.  Cesar Gomez was 2-3 with two runs.  Fidel Hatch pitched 3 and 2/3 allowing two earned runs.  Ashton Jenkins went 2 and 1/3 innings allowing one run with one strikeout.  Robert Bonilla returned to the Bee Jays Monday night.  He played with the team two summers ago.  He worked three innings for the win allowing one run with five strikeouts.
