The Liberal Bee Jays returned home to Brent Gould Field Saturday night. On a night when the wind was blowing out, the B.J.’s built a 10-1 lead and then held on to beat the Colorado Lumberjax 10-9.
The Jax scored a run in the first before Liberal countered with two in the second. When Liberal scored four in the fifth and sixth innings, they led 10-1 after six. But the Lumberjax rallied with two in the seventh, five in the eighth, and one in the ninth. The lead run was in scoring position.
The Jax out-hit the Jays 12-9. Both teams had two errors.
Liberal used five pitchers. Preston Roberge went three innings and did not allow an earned run. He struck out five and walked four. Newcomer Sean Saiz went 2 and 2/3 scoreless with five k’s. Adam Swanson went 2/3 to close it out.
Adam Swanson was Black Hills Energy Player of the Game. He was 3-5 with a home run, a double, five RBI’s, and three runs. Ben Finnegan and Cade Adams added two hits a piece.
The Lumberjax fall to 3-11 overall and 0-8 in the Rocky Mountain. Liberal is 9-3 overall and 7-2 in the Rocky Mountain. The same two teams play Sunday at 1:30 at Brent Gould Field. Pre-game at 1:15 on 1270 and 92.3 FM. J and R Constructor’s Group is the buyout sponsor.
