It was a good start. Liberal softball parents offered a cookout and a big crowd turned out for Liberal’s softball home opener Tuesday evening at the National Beef Sports Complex. Liberal took a 2-0 lead early. It was 2-2 in a competitive game, until Great Bend struck for six in the fourth on the way to an 11-2 win over LHS.
Liberal scored one in the first and one in the second for the lead. The Great Bend Panther countered with two in the third to tie it. Great Bend’s bats came alive with the six run fourth. The Panthers added three more in the sixth.
Great Bend out-hit Liberal 10-6. LHS committed three errors and GBHS had one. Taylor Harding was 2-4. Zoey Torres hit a triple down the right field line.
Great Bend is 8-1 overall and 3-0 in the WAC. Liberal is 3-2 and 0-1 in the WAC. The same two teams play a double header Thursday at 4pm at Great Bend.
