Redskins Foiled in the Fourth in Regional Loss at Maize

It was a 1-1 game and Liberal had the bases loaded with one out in the top of the third.  As it turned out, this would be the high point for the Liberal Redskins in their 6A regional game at Maize Wednesday evening.  Liberal hit into  double play.  Maize scored seven in the fourth on the way to an 11-1 win over Liberal in six innings.

The Eagles scored a run on three hits in the first.  Liberal answered in the third when Skyler Hubbard and Ethan Olmstead singled ahead of Landon Martinez’s RBI single.  After an error, LHS loaded the bases with one out before the Skins grounded into a 5-2-3 double play.  Maize scored seven runs on six hits and two errors in the fourth.   Most of the hits were seeing eye singles through the infield.  The Eagles added two in the fifth and one in the sixth to end the game.  Maize out-hit the Redskins 14-3.  Both teams committed two errors a piece.  Landon Martinez was named Epic Touch Player of the Game with his RBI single and stellar defense in center field.  Skyler Hubbard pitched  four innings giving up eight runs but only four were earned.

Maize is 19-8. Liberal finishes 8-18.
