LHS Softball Wins Rare Regional Before Loss to GCHS

In what is believed to be the first time ever, the Liberal softball program has a post season win.  Liberal made quick work of the Wichita South Titans 15-0 Wednesday afternoon in Garden City.  The Redskins then mustered one hit and committed seven errors in a 14-2 run rule loss to the Garden City Buffaloes.

Liberal scored four in the first, eight in the second, and three in the third to win in the 15 after three inning run rule.  Liberal had 10 hits and South had one.  The Titans committed eight errors.  Taylor Harding was 2-3 with a triple, a double, and two runs.  Brooklyn Short was 2-3 with a double and three RBI’s.  Haiden Lyon was 2-3 with a double and three RBI’s.  Zoey Torres was 2-3 with three runs and two RBI’s.  Devaney Carter was 2-2 with two runs.  Zoey Torres pitched three innings of one hit ball for the win.  She is 4-1. Wichita South finishes 10-13.

In the game two regional final against Garden City, the Buffaloes scored one in the first and four in the third.  Liberal plated two in the fourth to make it 5-2.  The Buffs unleashed a nine run fourth and then held LHS scoreless in the fifth to end it.  GCHS out-hit Liberal 6-1.  Liberal committed seven errors.

Garden City is 19-5 and headed to state.  Liberal finishes 15-13 for their first winning season since 2019.
