DODGE CITY, Kan. – The Seward County Community College softball team rallied in a comeback effort, but came up short to Colby Community College in a 7–6 loss in extra innings in an elimination game at the Region VI playoffs at Legends Park in Dodge City.
Seward lost its opening playoff game to Hutchinson, 1-0, forcing the showdown with Colby, which lost to Barton in its first.
The Lady Saints trailed early as the Trojans jumped out to a 4-0 lead with three runs in the three runs in the first inning and a run in the third. Seward battled back in the fourth inning with three runs on Danica Kowalik‘s two-run single and a Brooklynn Castagnetta RBI hit to cut the deficit to 4-3.
Colby added two more runs in the fifth inning to expand its advantage to 6-3.
In the top of the seventh, the Saints took full advantage of Colby miscues. A pair of walks, a costly Colby error and an RBI double by Kynleigh Kirby helped Seward erase the deficit and tie the game at 6-6 to send it to extras.
Colby would walk it off with a homer in the bottom of the eighth inning, ending the game and Seward’s season. The Lady Saints end the season at 10-22 in conference play and 18-32 overall.
