Liberal Girls Back to Winning Ways at Great Bend

Coming off back to back losses at Hooker and vs. Hugoton, the Liberal Lady Redskins got back to their winning ways Saturday night at Panther Gym in Great Bend.  Liberal clinched at worst a share of their 5th WAC title in six years with a dominant 60-31 win over the Great Bend Lady Panthers.  Liberal out scored Great Bend 38-13 in the second half.

Much like their match-up February 4 in Liberal, this was tight first half.  LHS led 11-10 after one quarter and took a 14-10 lead.  Great Bend rallied to lead 18-16.  But LHS scored the final six points of the second half to lead 22-18 at the half.  Liberal began the second half on a 10-0 run to lead 32-18.  Liberal led 45-26 at the end of three.  Liberal led 60-30 in the closing minutes before winning by 29.

Liberal took high percentage shots and made half of them shooting 50 percent while Great Bend shot 19 percent at 7-37.  Liberal forced 22 Great Bend turnovers and turn it over 16 times. The Lady Red scuffled at the foul line at 8-17 while the Lady Panthers were 16-24.

Ashley Carrillo scored 16 points.  Hailey Contreras and Keyona Hall had nine a piece.  Elle Hatcher scored eight.  Bree Horyna had eight points and 10 rebounds.  Carrillo and Hall had five steals a piece.

Great Bend is 6-13 overall and 1-6 in the WAC.  The Lady Redskins have won 12 in a row against Great Bend.  Liberal is 13-5 overall and 6-0 in the WAC.  Dodge City and Hays are 4-2 in the WAC.  Liberal plays at Garden City Tuesday night at 6 with Redskin Pre-game at 5:45 on 1270, 92.3, and the KSCB and The Legend App.

 

The JV girls pulled out a close one 44-38.

Naomi Macias lead the team with 10 Zoey Torres had 9 and Lizzy Cisneros had 8.
