KJCCC Sets Spring Protocol

Brock Kappelmann - December 2, 2020 4:22 pm

LIBERAL, Kan.- The Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) met on Monday, October 30th to discuss the Athletic competition protocols for the 2021 spring semester. The meeting consisted of the Presidents and Athletic Directors from all 21 institutions to discuss the protocols surrounding athletics during the COVID-19 pandemic. These are the protocols that have been approved and will be in effect for the KJCCC athletic seasons.

On gamedays, each institution will fill out a screening for every participating student-athlete, coach, faculty, and administrator that will be present for the competition. The visitors will need to conduct the screening protocol before departing from their respected campuses. Upon arrival, the home institution will conduct a second screening for every member that arrives with the visitors if the screening did not occur within the last 6 hours before game time.

Masks are required by all student-athletes, coaches, and bench personnel during competition unless student-athletes are actively engaged in the competition. This includes both indoor and outdoor venues. For practices, masks are required for coaches anytime they are less than six feet away from players.

To begin the season there will be no fans allowed to be present at the competition sites. This will be re-evaluated on February 1st to access the situation further and set protocols for fan presence if approved.

The first home games for Seward County will be on January 28th with the Lady Saints Volleyball team taking on Independence in the Greenhouse and on January 30th the Women’s and Men’s basketball teams face Cowley. For these two matchups, there will be no fans present but we will have many ways to stay engaged with these events through streams and social media.
