Saints, Lady Saints Tennis Teams Post Victories

Saints cruise past No.8 ABAC, 8-1

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Seward County Community College men’s tennis team defeated No. 8 Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, 8-1, on Monday. The Saints improved to 5-4 and finished the Pensacola Invitational at 3-1.

In singles action, No. 1 Nick Rousset beat Cristobal Quevedo Brea, 6-4 6-0, No. 3 Sander Jans defeated Juan Pino Contoleon, 6-3, 6-0, No. 4 Edgar Fougerit rallied to knock off Gabriel Chaves De Sa, 2-6, 6-2, 10-3 and No. 5 Franck Soulerot cruised past Phuong Pham, 6-0, 6-0.

The lone loss came when No. 2 Hugo Lobo lost to Lukas Zavrel after winning the first set, but then dropping the next two, 6-1, 3-6, 9-11.

In doubles, Lobo and Rousset downed Zavrel and Pino Contoleon, 8-5 and Fougerit and Jans downed Quevedo Brea and Chaves De Sa 8-2. Seward also won a singles and doubles match through a default.

The Saints will host Bethany at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Lady Saints cruise beat  No. 14 ABAC, 7-2

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The fifth-ranked Seward County Community College women’s tennis team finished the Pensacola Invitational on a winning note with a 7-2 triumph over No. 14 Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. The Lady Saints are 4-3 and went 2-2 at the tournament.

Once again, the Lady Saints played short-handed, but the rest of the team was up to the challenge and the only two losses were the injury defaults.

In singles competition, No. 1 Patricia Panta beat Agustina Diaz, 6-3, 6-1, No. 2 Maria Aveiga defeated Nina Pigeassou, 6-0, 6-0, No. 3 Alena Macharova sailed past Nora Ribeiro, 6-1, 6-1, No. 4 Sofia Belluco won over Sofia Guaglianone 6-2, 7-5 and No. 5 Eva Liu beat Laura Clark, 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles, Panta and Aveiga beat Diaz and Pigeassou, 8-3 and Macharova and Belluco blanked Ribeiro and Guaglianone, 8-0.

The Lady Saints will host Bethany at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
