Liberal Brings Homecoming Hammer

Brock Kappelmann - September 24, 2016 7:19 am

Liberal made homecoming non competitive.  The Liberal Redskins enjoy a win for a third consecutive week with a 56-14 win over the visiting Wichita North Redskins Friday night at the Gary Cornelsen Sports Complex.  LHS led 49-0 at halftime.  The game used a running clock in the fourth quarter.

Zach Mansell scored from eight yards out with 10:07 to play in the first.  Daniel Wehling recovered a fumble deep in North territory leading to an eight yard Cesar Burciaga score.  Cesar added a 53 yard touchdown with 5:44 to go but hit PAT failed to make it 20-0.  Wehling recovered another fumble but North recovered and LHS fumble.  Mansell would make it 28-0 after the two point conversion at the 9:44 mark.  Mansell’s 50 yard score into the south endzone made it 35-0 with 7:08 to play.  Tyrique Chandler’s 51 yard run at the 1:16 mark made it 41-0.  Mansell’s interception set up Syris Dunlap for a 41 yard score for a 49-0 lead with 10 seconds left in the half.  Liberal used their JV offense in the second half and North recovered two LHS fumbles.  Dunlap came in at quarterback and sliced 63 yards for a score with 11:46 to play.

Liberal is 3-1 for the first time since 2013 and wins three in a row for the first time since 2014.  North is 0-4.  LHS plays at 4-0 Garden City Friday night at 7 at Buffalo Stadium with Redskin Pre-game at 6 on 1270 and kscbnews.net.
