Doomed in Derby

The Derby Twins completed a three game sweep of the Liberal Bee Jays Sunday night at Panther Field in Derby. The Twins topped the BJ’s 6-5 in a see-saw affair.

Derby scored one in the first without a hit as starter Justin. Orwig walked two and beaned one. The Twins added a run in the fourth to lead 2-0. Liberal took the lead in the fifth as Robert Dugger slammed a two run homer over the left field wall for a 3-2 advantage. Derby came right back with two in the bottom of the fifth to lead 4-3 as the BJ’s coughed up two unearned runs. Derby added two in the seventh to lead 6-3. Liberal was tough with two outs in the eighth scoring scoring two runs. Kyle Lieser rolled a single to left to drive home a run and the second run scored on a wild pitch. Liberal placed there first two runners on base in the ninth but could not score.

Liberal lost despite out-hitting Derby 7-6. Derby had three errors meaning they committed nine errors in the series. Liberal had two errors.

the BJ’s are 5-3 and 1-3 in the Jayhawk League. Derby is 6-2 and 3-1 in the Jayhawk. Liberal plays a two game series at Hays Wednesday and Thursday at 7 on 1270 and kscbnews.net.
