Youthful Hooker High Looks to Continue Improvement

KSCB News - August 15, 2013 7:36 am

Hooker has 27 players out for football in 2013. Even though they return seven starters on offense and six on defense, 10 of their players are freshman and nine are sophomores. So there is an infusion of young Hooker Bulldogs who will play meaning varsity minutes this season under third year head coach Jacob Kreamer.

The Bulldogs have turned their fortunes around in recent years going 6-5 last year and 5-5 the season before making the playoffs both seasons after enduring a seven year stretch of 2-67.

Joe Bean was a big part of that improvement but he is at Tulsa now and should see playing time as a true freshman. Two sophomores are competing for the the quarterback job as Dayton Metcalf and John Godfrey are taking snaps.

Senior Taylor McBee returns to the offensive backfield after back to back one thousand yard rushing seasons. He will also play corner. Senior Alex Juarez anchors the line and Junior WR/DE Hunter Brown is a play maker.

Hooker will be featured during the Thursday morning Sportsguys.
