Aggie Softball Wins Two

KSCB News - April 13, 2013 6:56 am

Goodwell, Okla.-The Oklahoma Panhandle State University softball beat Newman
University in both games of the doubleheader Friday afternoon.

The Aggies started the scoring in the first inning when Kaitlin McCool
singled and then scored on a Brandi Heath sacrifice fly for the 1-0 lead.
They followed that with four more runs in the third while holding the
visitors scoreless, but the Lady Jets roared back, scoring 10 runs in the
fourth inning to take 10-5 lead. But the Aggies bounced right back, plating
three runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to win the 14-10 slug
fest. Heath was a perfect 3-3 at the plate while McCool and Kari Pitts both
had three hits for four at-bats. Britnie Weddle and Junna’e Dai’Re both had
three RBIs and Pitts and Heath each had two. Winning pitcher Presjel Dai’Re
entered the game when OPSU was behind 10-5 and did an excellent job in the
circle, giving up only one hit and striking out two over three and one-third
innings of work.

The action calmed down considerably in game two as both pitchers went to
work. The game remained scoreless until the fifth when Kari Pitts doubled to
get Emily Vasquez home and then Junna’e Dai’Re singled to get Pitts home.
Those were the only two runs of the game as the Aggies closed the second
victory. Samantha Arledge tossed a complete game shutout, scattering nine
hits and striking out three.

The women play the final game of the series Saturday afternoon beginning at
1 p.m.
