McMurry Takes Final Game on Cold Day in Goodwell

KSCB News - March 25, 2013 6:55 am

oodwell, Okla.-Oklahoma Panhandle State University and McMurry University
met on the diamond for the third and final game of the three-game series
under misty skies and near freezing temperatures Saturday afternoon.

The War Hawks scored single runs in the first, second and fourth innings and
the Aggies finally got on the board in the bottom of the fourth. Casey
Kettler hit a nice bunt to get to first and Nick Crosswhite followed that
with a double, sending Kettler to third. Alfonso Gonzalez hit a sacrifice
fly to get Kettler safely home and Crosswhite scored off a Robert Montoya
single to get within one run of a tie. McMurry scored another run in the
eighth to take a 4-2 lead, and then exploded in the ninth, plating four runs
to end the scoring to take an 8-2 victory.

Kettler had three hits for four at bats and Gonzalez and Montoya both picked
up an RBI. Starting pitcher Freezy Smalls was given the loss, striking out
four and scattering six hits in seven innings of work.

The Aggies continue their home stand Mar. 29-30 with a three-game series
against conference rival Texas A&M International. A doubleheader is
scheduled for Friday and they play a single nine inning game on Saturday.
The first pitch is set for 1 p.m. both days.
