Another Shocker in Salina

The eight seeded Liberal soccer team went to top seed Salina Central and beat them 2-1 in double overtime Thursday night at Salina Stadium. One of Salina Central’s best players received a red card for pushing over a Redskin meaning the Mustangs played with 10 much of the night. Despite that, Central still built a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick.

Esteban Michel scored Liberal first goal about midway through the second half to tie the game. Ricardo Castro had the assist. Misael Gonzalez scored the winning goal in double overtime assisted by Jason Rios. Salina Central won the shots on goal statistic 12-8 but lost.

The Redskins are 9-8-1 and Salina Central finishes 15-3 one year after Liberal beat at 17-2 Salina Central team in the quarterfinals also at Salina.

The Redskins play WAC rival Great Bend Tuesday night. The Panthers had never defeated Liberal until two wins over LHS this season.
