First WAC Championship of School Year Decided in Garden City

KSCB News - October 2, 2012 6:29 am

Great Bend dominated the WAC girls tennis tournament in Garden City with 16 team points followed by Garden City with 9 points, Hays with 7 points, Dodge City with 5 and Liberal with 3 team points. Liberal head coach Bret Irby says he altered Liberal’s lineup for WAC.

"Trying to steal a couple of WAC wins, I switched our number one and two teams around today. We should have picked up a couple of more wins which would have changed the team standings at the bottom, but our girls competed hard and battled high winds all day."
Individual results:
#1 Singles–Lauren Harp went 0-4 on the day.
#2 Singles–Maddie Rees went 1-4 on the day, but in a three-way tie, ended up taking 3rd Place with a higher percentage of games won vs. games lost.
#1 Doubles–Alicia Collins/Jordyn Apsley played #1 Doubles for the first time this year, so we could find some wins at the #2 spot. "Taking one for the team" they battled hard but finished 0-4.
#2 Doubles–Jaycee Darroch/Stephanie Sanchez went 2-2 on the day finishing in 3rd place.
The Lady Skins travel to Arkansas City on Saturday for Regional play.
