Knoll’s Monster Game Leads Lady Saints in Florida

KSCB News - November 11, 2011 6:41 am

Playing in one of the top classics of the 2011-2012 year, the Women’s Basketball Report Classic, in Mariana, Florida, the Seward County Lady Saints couldn’t have started things much better than they did on Thursday afternoon as they notched a 86-63 blowout win over the defending NJCAA Division II National Champions Monroe College to start their trip to the Sunshine State just about perfect.

The teams played close early on before Seward took control and never let it go. The Lady Saints put up 56 points in the first half, shooting 44% from the field and burying 6 of 11 three point attempts to take a big 56-27 halftime lead against the 6th ranked Lady Mustangs. While Monroe outscored Seward 36-30 in the final 20 minutes, it wasn’t nearly enough to keep the Lady Saints from the upset win as the gals in green cruised to an 86-63 win to move to 4-0 on the early season.

Ashlynn Knoll had a monster game for Seward, scoring a career high 34 points while tying her career best with 14 rebounds. Knoll signed at K-State this week. Joining Knoll in the double-double club Thursday was Mariah Lee who turned in a 17 point, 11 rebound performance for the Lady Saints. Charmaine Burns and Anete Kirsteine each hit a pair of three’s and finished with 10 points each and Ricquia Jones finished with 5 steals and Kayla Thomas 5 assists.

Next up for the Lady Saints is a date with Tallahassee on Friday at 12:00 which is scheduled to be streamed live at http://www.chipola.edu/tv/
