Cicchetti Fires One Hitter at #18 Western Nebraska

KSCB News - March 28, 2011 6:49 am

While battling through a freezing drizzle from pitch
number one, Seward County Lady Saints sophomore Sydney Cicchetti spun a
one hit shutout against the #18 team in the country, Western Nebraska,
Sunday afternoon in a 6-0 win for Seward. It would be a 0-0 game into
the bottom of the 4th inning when Seward squeezed out the game’s first
run to go up 1-0 before scoring 2 in the 5th and 3 in the 6th to go up
6-0. The drama would be Cicchetti going into the 7th with a no-hitter
and after getting the first hitter of the inning out, Bree Bitton would
break up the bid with a double. Cicchetti would settle her nerves and
finish the inning without giving up a run to secure her third shutout of
the season as the Lady Saints went on to win 6-0. Cicchetti would
finish the game with a career high 14 strikeouts while she would be
helped on offense by Michelle Duford and Jill Rodgers who each had a
pair of doubles and a pair of runs scored in the win. Seward hosts
