LHS Girls Golf Opens Season

Brock Kappelmann - August 29, 2023 6:38 am

Bert Luallen

The Liberal High School Girls Golf Team traveled to Hays on Monday to participate in the Hays HS Girls Golf Invitational, their opening tournament of the 2023 season. With a very young, short-handed, and inexperienced team, the Lady Redskins got off to a great start to their season by posting four career best rounds.

Bret Lyon, Senior, posted a career best 105 to finish in a tie for 19th place out of 38 players. Bret is the only player on the team with varsity experience. This year’s score of 105 was 17 strokes better than the 122 she posted at last year’s Hays Tournament!

Sophomore Leini Tian, who was on junior varsity last season and had never played an entire 18 holes, had a respectable 119. Freshman Katie Lewis recorded a score of 150 and Junior Aaliah Osborn carded a 166. Katie has only been playing golf for four months and Aaliah for only one month.

The Lady Redskins continue their road trip at the Emporia HS Invite at Emporia Municipal Golf Course, site of this year’s 6A Girl’s State Tournament in October.
