Bee Jays Win Opener Over Angels

The Liberal Bee Jays won their opener 8-5 over the Gameday Angels from Parker, Colorado Friday night at Brent Gould Field.  Liberal wins their opener for a second straight year.

The B.J.’s scored one in the first when Cooper Kardokus singled and scored when Cole Manuel doubled to left center.  The Angels put together three singles to scored two second inning runs.  Two walks and a double paved the way for a third inning run and a 3-1 lead for the Angels.  Drew Gartman singled in the third.  That along with two walks and an error helped the B.J.’s tie the game 3-3 in the third.  Seward’s David Brabb launched a home run into the trees in left to give Gameday a 4-3 lead in the fifth.  The Jays scored three in the fifth to take the lead.  Drew Gartman singled, stole a base, and scored on a wild pitch.   Cole Manuel walked and Kaden Isola singled him home.  Adam Swanson singled.  Isola would score on a wild pitch.  The Bee Jays scored two insurance runs in the eighth.  With two outs, William Bologne singled.  Drew Gartman singled home two with a bloop single down the right field line.

The B.J. bullpen was solid allowing one run in seven innings of work.  Braxon Trenkle worked 3 and 2/3 allowing one run with four strikeouts and three walks.  Josiah Rojas worked two scoreless innings.  Sam Barnes went 1 and 1/3 scoreless.  Drew Gartman was Black Hills Energy Player of the Game going 3-5 with two RBI’s and two runs.  Adam Swanson was 2-4.

Liberal out-hit the Angels 10-9.  The Angels had three errors and Liberal had two ninth inning errors.

The Angels are 2-2 and Liberal is 1-0.  The Bee Jays hosts the Angels Saturday night at 7pm at Brent Gould Field.  Pre-game at 6:45 on 1270 and 92.3 FM.
