Work Begins on Economic Development Road Project In Grant County

KSCB News - July 14, 2009 12:00 am

The Kansas Department of Transportation expects work to begin on Wednesday, July 15, to reconstruct two intersections on the north and east sides of Ulysses and pave the connecting county roads. The project extends from the junction of US-160 and Stubbs Road (Grant County Road K), north three miles to Grant County Road 9 and then west one mile to the junction of K-25 and Road 9.

The reconstruction will provide turning lanes on each highway for vehicles turning onto and off of the county roads and pave the county roads between the two highway intersections. During construction, lane width on US-160 and K-25 will be reduced to 11 feet through the work zones. Access from the highways to the county roads will be limited or closed during construction of the turning lanes. Traffic on the county roads will be reduced to one lane through the work zone, guided by a pilot car, during paving operations. The Kansas DOT expects this project to be completed in October.

APAC-Kansas, Inc., Shears Division of Hutchinson, Kansas, is the primary contractor on this project, with a contract price of just over $1.7 million. The economic development grant from the state will cover $1.5 million of the construction costs.
