USD 480 COVID-19 Class and Activities Update

Joe Denoyer - March 14, 2020 4:19 pm

USD 480

We are in the midst of uncharted waters with the COVID 19 outbreak around the world. School district officials are in constant contact with the Seward County Health Department, Seward County Emergency Management and Southwest Medical Center. In addition, Dr. Watson, KSDE commissioner is directly coordinating with the Kansas Department of Health to make certain school districts have the latest information.

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
Schools will resume on Monday, March 16th, with the following exceptions:

Kindergarten classes are cancelled until further notice.
Bright Start Early Learning Center is closed until further notice.
We are having to make major adjustments to bus routes. Pick up and drop off times may be impacted.

Activities
All activities (including evening events) are cancelled until March 23rd. All evening community activities held in our buildings are also cancelled to allow extra time for cleaning and sanitizing the buildings. Decisions will be made week to week on activities.

After School Program
The after school program will be in session.

Athletic Practices
Athletic practices can be held outside. If there is inclement weather, practices are cancelled.

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment and CDC (Center for Disease Control) are great resources for factual information concerning the coronavirus. Please use the links below.

The decision to close schools is not made by district officials for health related matters. The County Health Department in conjunction with KDHE will work district officials on the decision to close schools if necessary. We remain in close contact with officials as information changes rapidly.
