KSCB News - April 7, 2015 6:06 am

The USD 480 school board met Monday night and republished the budget. This is a standard procedure based on this school year’s enrollment. The budget is up 700 thousand dollars due to increased students this school year. The total budget combining the general budget, at risk, and special ed totals over 44 million dollars.

The board approved another ESL teacher for Liberal High School as the number of English as a second language students is up over 80. So they will add a teacher to make four ESL teachers at LHS next year. The board also approved the student handbook for next school year. The board also bought copy paper for over 66 thousand dollars which should last for two years.

The board also heard a presentation from Jennifer Hanson’s kindergarten class at McDermott. A student in that class, Levi Foreman, is back at school but has missed some this year due to cancer treatments. The class has used a teddy bear to sit in Levi’s desk, go to PE class, music class ETC.. while he has been gone.
