US 83 Bridge Repair Work To Begin

KSCB News - November 26, 2012 10:14 pm

The Kansas Department of Transportation expects a bridge repair project on US-83 north of Liberal to begin by Thursday, November 29. The bridge is located about 5½ miles north of the US-83/K-51 junction in Seward County.

The project calls for repairing or replacing bearing devices and that will require raising each of the four bridge girders at different times. During each of those phases, traffic across the bridge will be reduced to one lane, controlled by flaggers. Because of the sporadic nature of this work, the Kansas DOT urges drivers to be alert to changing traffic conditions.

KDOT expects work on this project to be completed by the end of December, depending on weather. Bridges, Inc., of Newton, Kansas is the primary contractor on this project at a cost of approximately 140-thousand dollars.

If you have questions on this project, you can call Greg Adams, Construction Engineer, at 620-624-4451, or Kirk Hutchinson, KDOT Southwest Public Affairs Manager, at 1-877-550-5368 (toll free).
