Tyrone Superintendent Issues Statement on Recent Tragedies

Joe Denoyer - May 21, 2018 2:04 pm

Dear Parents and Friends:
All of us at Tyrone Public Schools were deeply saddened by the tragic loss of two of our finest Bobcats, Conner Smith and Austin Olson. We, the faculty, students, and staff of Tyrone, wish to extend our deepest sympathy and heart-felt condolences to the families, relatives, many friends, and classmates.

Although Conner and Austin had just begun their lives as young adults, they had already made lots of new friends who will deeply miss them. We join with the Smith and Olson families in their loss.

In order to assist our students and staff in coping with the great sadness and shock of this tragedy, we have requested the help of counselors and others to be with our children and
staff. We will continue to have resources available to help us through this most difficult time. If any of you or your family is upset and need assistance, please call me. If you notice a sudden change in your child’s behavior and/or health, that is unexplainable to you, please contact us as we will continue to respond to any child who is upset or is having problems in dealing with this tragedy. There is assistance available and we care.

When an event of this magnitude touches one of us, it affects us all. Our school is an important part of this community and we jointly share in the responsibility of the development of our greatest resource—our children. This tragedy causes each of us to review our priorities and to think more carefully about what is important in our lives. Perhaps from this comes a greater sense of family, community, and friendship.

Sincerely,
Josh Bell
Superintendent
