Traffic Stop In Goodwell Nets 32 Bundles Of Marijuana

Two men are now in police custody after a routine traffic stop helped net more than 35 pounds of marijuana.

On May 19, Goodwell Police stopped a white Ford Mustang with New Mexico tags for no tag light. The driver was 23-year-old Carlos Raul Marques Sosa. According to a storyin The Guymon Daily Herald, the officer smelled an odor of marijuana coming from the car. That’s when the officer asked permission to search the car and consent was given. The passenger, Jorge A. Chumacero, 22, also agreed to the search.

Upon a search of the car, two compartments were found under the driver’s and passenger’s kick plates. Officers removed 16 bundles of marijuana from each of the compartments. The total weight of thess marijuana found was 37.3 pounds. During interviews, Sosa and Chumacero both said they were each going to receive $1000 for delivering the drugs.

The driver and passenger are being charged with trafficking marijuana within 1000 Ft of a school. They are being held at the Texas County Detention Center on a $150,000 bond each.
