Texhoma Voters To Vote On Bond Issue

Residents of Texhoma have the opportunity on Tuesday, Aug. 28, to vote on a bond that would significantly boost the facilities on the Texhoma campus with state of the art improvements campus-wide.
�??We have a lot of old buildings and the time has come for us to improve our facilities,�?� says Superintendent of Schools Eric Smith. The newest facilities on campus are the domes, which were built 12 years ago and the gymnasium, which is 34 years old. All other buildings on campus are at least 50 years old, dating back to 1935. �??It�??s time to make improvements to what we have, so we may better serve and educate our students,�?� Smith explains.
Student enrollment in Texhoma Schools, grades 5 through 12, has increased 33 percent during the past 15 years. The Oklahoma Department of Commerce is projecting a 22 percent population increase for Texas County in the next 20 years. Texhoma wants to be prepared for this growth.
The Texhoma Board of Education is asking its voters to approve a 12-year series bond in the amount of $4.725 million. Texhoma residents will have the opportunity to vote Aug. 28 to determine whether Texhoma Schools will get to make these improvements. Early voting for this election will take place Friday, Aug, 24, and Monday, Aug. 27, at the Texas County Election Board office in Guymon. Persons may vote by absentee ballot as long as the Texas County Election Board receives the application by Aug. 22.
