Tuesday morning at approximately 11:35am, Firefighters from Multiple Agency’s were requested to aid in a large grass fire in Beaver County just east of Turpin.
The Texas County Fire Strike Team consisting of Firefighters and units from Guymon, Texhoma, Goodwell, Hough, Yarbrough, Hardesty, and Baker arrived at approximately 1:00pm and began their operations. Multiple other departments from Beaver County, Ellis County, Ochiltree County, and Seward County responded, including Oklahoma Forestry Division out of Weatherford.
According to the Oklahoma Forestry Service, this fire called “The Flat Tire Fire” has burned approximately 5000 acres and is the first sizable fire in Northwest Oklahoma this season. “This was a large fire with a great deal of dry fuels to burn”, said Guymon Fire Chief Grant Wadley. Current weather conditions and high fuel loads challenge Firefighters’ efforts in controlling and containing these fires. Oklahoma Forestry Division was still at the scene on Wednesday morning putting out hot areas and constructing fire lines.
