Sporting KC to Host Soccer Clinic

The Kansas Department of Commerce will host, in part, a free youth soccer clinic in Garden City and Dodge City on April 29th and 30th in order to promote the services of KansasWorks to the two communities.

Sporting KC representatives will lead the instruction at the soccer clinic. Assistant Technical Director Mike Jacobs and Director of Player Personnel Brian Bliss will be on site in both Dodge City and Garden City to lead the clinic. The clinic is open to anyone ages 8 to 14. Everyone registered for the clinic will received a free t-shirt and certificate. There will also be drawings at the event to give away soccer balls and Sporting KC game tickets.

For children ages 8 to 10, the clinic will take place from 9 a.m. to noon, followed by ages 11 to 14 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Local coaches as well as high school and college soccer players will be assisting and leading drills and short-sided games designed to improve soccer skills. Lunch will be available in between the sessions.

“It is vital that we enrich our communities in not only ensuring that Kansas has a skilled and talented workforce, but also by promoting the quality of life in our state,” said Kansas Commerce Secretary Antonio Soave. “We look forward to working with these two outstanding communities through events that promote excellence in business and workforce development.”

The KansasWorks Mobile Unit will be on site, as well as workforce specialists from KansasWorks, to assist any and all job-seekers get on the road to their futures.
