Skins Hold Off Aces

KSCB News - October 14, 2010 12:00 am

Liberal wasn’t as agressive offensively and head coach Lori Navarro wanted to see. But their defense smothered Wichita East in a 2-1 Redskin win in the semifinals of the Wichita North Cup Wednesday evening. Hector Mata scored on a rebound after an Isai Gutierrez shot on goal giving LHS a 2-1 lead with 5:48 to play. Soccorro Martinez found the back of the net first thanks to a corner kick from Mata. Wichita East scored early in the second half on a penalty kick. The Redskins won the shots on goal category 12-6 meaning that in two games at the North Cup, Liberal has allowed only six shots on goal. Kapaun and Wichita North play today. The winner meets Liberal Saturday at 3 p.m. in the championship.
